History
Tourism for All UK is the result of a merger in 2004 between the national Charity Holiday Care, the lobbying group Tourism for All Consortium, and the hotelier’s forum project IndividuALL.
The background history is as follows:
1976
'Tourism – the Social Need' Report by national Tourist Boards and the TUC.
1979
Leads to the creation of the Holiday Care Service.
1981
Holiday Care Service registered as a charity.
1986
Establishment of the Hotel And Holiday Consortium, under the auspices of the Spinal Injuries Association. A group of disability charities and other interested parties set out to influence and advise the tourism industry on the needs of disabled people.
1989
'Tourism for All – a report of the working party chaired by Mary Baker' published.
"Accessibility is an all-embracing concept"
"High standards of accessibility benefit everyone, and should always feature in information and marketing."
"Catering for the needs of all potential visitors is good business."
1989
Tourism for All Vice President invited by Prince Charles to a meeting of hoteliers. Leads to the founding of the Hoteliers’ Forum within The Disability Partnership, the Prince of Wales’ Advisory Group on Disability.
1997
Hotel and Holiday Consortium merges with Tourism for All to become the Tourism for All Consortium.
2001
Holiday Care joins the Enabling Partnership and after many years in Horley, moves to Croydon.
2003
Discussions begin in relation to the merger of the charity Holiday Care and its trading subsidiary Tourism for All Holidays Limited, with the Tourism for All Consortium and the IndividuALL project.
2004
Holiday Care changes its name to Tourism for All UK on February 6th.
Holiday Care, IndividuALL and the Tourism for All Consortium complete the merger on April 1st. The Enabling Partnership is dissolved.
2005
Tourism for All moves its information service to Kendal to the Vitalise call centre.
2008
Tourism for All launches the new website.
