A very useful web site giving an overview of access and facilities for the disabled has been set up by a local Disability Forum and can be found under www.access2go.org.uk and click on Solent.

Parking

Short term disabled parking is situated adjacent to the terminal whilst for longer term, assistance from the long term car park will be supplied upon request to the car parking company.

Automatic doors are in place in the terminal and all kerbs have drop down ramps (maximum gradient 1:12.) Unisex disabled toilets are situated at the welcome point, the car marshalling area, in the terminal and on the quayside. RADAR keys are required at all except the one in the terminal.

Disabled passengers are asked to notify the ferry company when checking in and a minibus, capable of carrying up to three wheelchairs, will transfer passengers to the ship's lift. A lowered public telephone fitted with an inductive coupler in the handset, is available within the terminal.

End seats in the terminal lack arm-rests, so transfer from a wheelchair is practical. Adequate space is also made in the cafe for wheelchair use. P & O, Brittany ferries and Condor Ferries welcome disabled passengers and there are facilities on board for their use.
