The award-winning New Lanark Visitor Centre tells the fascinating story of the cotton mill village of New Lanark which was founded in the 18th century. New Lanark quickly became known under the enlightened management of social pioneer, Robert Owen. He provided decent homes, fair wages, free health care, a new education system for villagers and the first workplace nursery school in the world! Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, New Lanark has been beautifully restored as a living community, which welcomes visitors from all over the world.

New Lanark World Heritage Site

New Lanark Visitor Centre welcomes everyone. However, the location of the village in a steep-sided valley beside the Falls of Clyde, though picturesque, is not ideal terrain for wheelchair-users and visitors with mobility needs. The village has been made as wheelchair-friendly as possible; please download our mobility needs information guide from our website www.newlanark.org to help you plan your visit. Alternatively, call us on 01555 661345 or view our Accessibility Guide at https://www.accessibilityguides.org/content/new-lanark-world-heritage-site

Within the village we also have the New Lanark Mill Hotel with 4 fully accessible rooms (3 standard, 1 family) and the New Lanark Leisure Suite which provides a range of accessible leisure facilities including a pool with lifting/lowering chair and adaptable gym machinery.

Visitors to New Lanark can also enjoy visiting the Mill Café for light snacks & New Lanark Ice Cream, as well as the Mill Shop which stocks a large variety of gifts, Scottish produce, fashion, homeware, books and of course, New Lanark Wool & Textiles.
