Award winning Dementia Charity releases 2019 Holiday dates
Essex based charity Dementia Adventure have announced that their holidays for the first half of 2019 have launched and are now open for bookings!
This year sees the return of some firm favourites such as the Isle of Wight, Lake District and Cornwall. Additionally they have announced a new destination for 2019 in Wales. Dates for late summer and autumn holidays will be launched in March 2019.
Dementia Adventure, who have just celebrated delivering their 100th holiday, offer small group, supported holidays for people living with dementia and their partners, family, friends or carers to enjoy together. They provide a much needed alternative to traditional respite breaks that separate the person with dementia from their family or partner, this innovative organisation tailors breaks specifically for people with dementia and their loved ones to enjoy together.
Co-founder and Chief Operations Officer, Lucy Harding says “Sometimes all that is required for people living with Dementia to take a break is understanding and a helping hand. We have a trained team and well planned itineraries that give both the person with dementia and the carer a proper break. We welcome people with all types of dementia and can arrange personal care if necessary. Whether you want to relax by the coast or walk up mountains, we really do have something for everyone this year!”
Head of Fundraising, Kath Vale says “We don’t want money to be a reason for people not to have a break. We work hard to raise money so we can offer a significant subsidy on all our holidays. Last year, our fundraising and the continued support of Players of the People's Postcode Lottery, covered two thirds of the cost of our programme of holidays - meaning that our clients only paid for the cost of the holiday, whilst we covered the cost of the support to make it happen”.
As well as supported holidays, the charity provides training and consultancy to other organisations and leads and participates in dementia research. Their fresh and innovative approach has been acknowledged this year by receiving the Silver-i Award from Silver Travel Advisor and they are also finalists in the ‘Trailblazer of the year’ category in the Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Friendly Awards.
